texture mediums and fluid acrylics combined to create unique compositions
The Process
The process typically begins with preparing a canvas or panel by adding texture mediums to create a sculpted, three-dimensional base. This texture can be built up with tools like palette knives or spatulas to create raised areas, grooves, and patterns, adding a sense of movement and drama. Once the base layer is dry, fluid acrylics are poured over the surface. I often mix acrylic paint with a pouring medium, which allows it to flow more freely across the textured surface, creating beautiful, organic shapes and cellular effects.
As the paint flows across the textured areas, it pools in some places and runs thin in others, creating a natural interplay between color and relief. The final artwork evoke natural landscapes, water, and geological formations due to the combined effects of fluid paint and texture.
